I always meant to post a “What I Ate Wednesday”, and to date there are zero on this blog! While I still don’t plan on posting what I eat every Wednesday, I’ve had some inquiries lately about what a day looks like around here – both on my plate and with my little Evie. So, here is a day in the life of me!
5am baby wakes. Change her diaper, give her a bottle. Usually she falls back to sleep within the hour and goes back in her crib or we sleep together on the couch. Before she wakes, I sip on some warm water with fresh squeezed lemon and ginger juice.
6:30am Evie’s up! She plays on her mat with her toys and I make some breakfast which is either a couple eggs, a smoothie, peanut butter & banana on corn thins, or a bowl of fruit topped with my homemade granola. If I don’t feel like preparing anything I’ll just grab a flax or blueberry muffin, or just have two or three matcha balls with my coffee! I also make breakfast for her which consists of some sweet potato, parsnip with pear (her favorite), broccoli with applesauce, or whole milk organic yogurt with some blueberry and banana and occasional oatmeal (which I just grind up rolled oats to form a powder).
8:30am nap. Sleeps 30 min to an hour. I get to shower! Woohoo!
9:10am Change and get her dressed for the day. We take the dogs for a walk and I wear her in the Lille Baby Carrier. We come back, read some books, and have another bottle. She plays when we return and I sing songs she enjoys and play with her.
10:30am Mommy & Me class and Evie’s skipping a nap at this point, but I can’t always plan her naps perfectly (unfortunately). Some weeks she wakes at 10am and that’s ideal, but not this time! I really look forward to this class each week. It’s such a great way to check in with other moms, make sure all the questions and concerns I’ve thought of throughout the week (and let me tell you, there can be multiple new issues pop up daily!) are totally normal. There’s such great advice thrown around, and I love that the babies all get to explore and socialize during that hour and a half together. I learn something new each week. Here she is getting up for the first time, in the class!
12:00pm (ish) bottle. Mommy & Me is wrapping up so I fit it in there somewhere right before we go! Even though I rather feed her every 3 to 4 hours, by the time we get home she’s overdue for her nap (and makes it known) so feeding her a little early is the best way to go!
12:30pm nap. Sometimes I’m really on top of things and make lunch beforehand so when we get home and she goes down I can just grab it! It’s either my favorite kale salad, quinoa salad, a spicy black bean veggie wrap, if it’s really cold than this nourishing warming carrot ginger soup, or even one of my favorite veggie burgers topped with veggies (yes, more) and an egg.
1:30pm She wakes then goes in her highchair for “lunch”. I just started giving her some bits of chicken and puree it with veggies like green beans and butternut squash. I’ve been asked whether I’m going to keep Evie on a gluten free and mostly vegetarian diet like me. The answer is pretty much no. Will she be 90% plant based? Yes. Will she be 100% gluten free? No. My main concern and demand is that anything with gluten, and anything that comes from an animal be in its purest form as possible, and ethically treated/raised. I wrote this post about eggs and that’s what I stick to, and as far as any meats always pasture raised, no hormones or antibiotics, non-gmo, and 100% organic. Fish I will stay away from anything farmed (see my fish post here on how to buy). I feel this way she is getting a wide range of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients the best way I see fit for her. How that goes could change, but right now that’s where we’re at!
2:00pm We usually go for another walk, or run an errand. We just love being outside and since we’re in Southern California where it’s nice most of the time, it works out well! The dogs love it too! I also take her to the park where she loves to go in the swing and watch the other “big kids” run around.
3:00pm Another bottle and then some books before her last nap!
3:30pm Nap time! I usually do some dishes, wash her bottles, pick up her toys, and respond to some emails. I often will prep dinner for the night too. And snack. I really need a snack by this stage! I have one of these.
4:00pm She wakes and we play!
6:15pm Last bottle of the day.
6:40pm Dinner time. Did I mentioned how much Sun Basket saves me?!
After dinner I clean up, do dishes, fill bottles and formula for the next day. Bedtime is whenever I pass out – but ALWAYS before 9pm. I’ve never been one to stay up late, and once I had her it got even earlier. Can you blame me?! On Monday nights I’m up the latest I can last because The Bachelor is on. Don’t judge!
Mama’s what’s your typical day like?!
