I started a 4 month update. Really, I did. As anyone with a baby or kids knows, it’s not an easy task to get a moment away for much else than doing the necessary things before baby is up and ready to play again! I’m referring to laundry, washing and filling bottles (which has actually gotten a lot easier now that she has more of a routine!), picking up groceries at the market, more laundry, returning emails, paying bills or dealing with house stuff that inevitably seems to come up, reading up on tips and advice for a baby her age (I never claimed I knew what I was doing!), or actually resting for a minute while she does.
Evie is so much fun. I am loving this age! No more “fourth trimester” stuff, and her reflux is under control. She’s super smiley, laughs easily, loves to take everything in and the more places I take her the happier she seems to be. She loves to be around people so I guess the parties I’ve thrown recently have been fun for her too! I think she gets bored of her own surroundings if I keep her cooped up in the house too much. BUT the car is still not her favorite thing in the world, so that means lots of walks to local spots, the beach, and the park where she squeals with delight watching the other “big” kids play.
Here’s what’s happened since her last update!
Partially crawling and sitting up. She scoots/army crawls more than truly crawling yet, but she does get up on all fours from time to time for the real thing. Her will is stronger than her physical ability at the moment so in order to get that toy she sees she’s got to do something, so she just goes for it. I can turn around for just a minute and she’ll be on the other end of her play mat. She rolls over both ways but is rarely motivated to go back to stomach. She enjoys “talking” to the dogs and also holds her bottle all by herself (like, grabs it from me and leans back and chugs. Gotta watch out for this one!). And some more…
She met Santa:
Got her first Christmas tree:
She’s now old enough for a bouncer:
She eats 6 ounces five times a day for a total of 30 ounces. I heard someone say a quick and easy trick to know how many ounces to give is add 2 to the number of months the baby is. Evie is now 5 months old but I still keep it at around 6/6.5 ounces a bottle since they eventually max out at a certain number of ounces a day. Considering she sleeps through the night and has plenty of adorable rolls on her thighs, I know she’s getting enough nutrition. As you know, I could not breastfeed (something I am ready to talk about and will post on soon). But Evie is still on donor milk. This makes me so happy and I am so grateful to all the amazing mothers who have donated to us. If you are one of them, thank you.
Evie sleeps about 11 hours straight a night. She goes to bed around 6:30pm and wakes around 5:00am. Those times can vary by about 30 minutes. She’s done this off and on for about a month and a half now (maybe more?!) with a few hiccups here and there (like the 4 month sleep regression…ouch! It didn’t last very long though). She has many short naps throughout the day. I still put her down every two hours, that’s how often she’s ready to sleep again. Naps are usually 45 minutes max, usually 30. All in all it adds up to the recommended amount of sleep a baby her age should average a day! The early bedtime is nice because I can spend a little time with my husband at night, just enough to catch up on a favorite episode since I usually pass out by around 8/8:30pm! I’ve always been a sleeper myself so unfortunately I don’t last as long as I’d like! It makes me enjoy the weekends even more now!
Looking forward to:
Starting solids! Baby led weaning or purees?! What to do what to do! Thank you for all of your advice on Instagram and Facebook! It seems like most of you favor a little of both. Please feel free to comment below if you have any more tips, advice, and ideas! I love hearing all your opinions and thoughts on the matter. Sitting up on her own! She is doing the tripod at the moment. She lasts a little while sitting up but hunched over playing with her toes. Eventually she tips over. She’s more interested in crawling/scooting around than sitting up. I can see why, it’s certainly more exciting.
What I’m loving right now:
Lillebaby Carrier for many of our walks and outings. It’s comfortable and easy to use. I started with the Ergo 360 but I just couldn’t get passed the velcro strap around the waist. The Lillebaby has two clips to fasten and you’re done. I love the little compartment in the front to stash my phone and keys. It too can accommodate the baby front or back facing, in or out. Evie seems happy with it too. Cool hand teethers are where it’s at in Evie’s world to gnaw on. She absolutely loves them! I love them too because they don’t cost much! I make sure to keep one in her stroller and on her play mat. Evie had a slight cold recently and that’s when I discovered Hyland’s Cold n Cough. Amazing. I have used other homeopathic products of theirs on Evie and myself, and they just work! The recommended dosage starts at age 2, so I gave her just a tiny bit (.5mL as opposed to 2mL) a few times a day. But always consult with the pediatrician first! And most of all, I’m loving my little sunshine girl.
